#143: Luxury day in the lap of nature ft. Daughter’s Day!

My Sunday has started quite early. For Daughter’s Day today, my parents planned a mini road trip, and while we just hop skipped and jumped over to the nearest hill station of Lonavala, this was our first getaway after a very long time, the first time since last year’s lockdown.

On our way, we’d barely left home, and everyone started complaining about being hungry. We stopped by Haldiram’s on F.C. Road and the plan was to pick something for the road, reach Lonavala in an hour and a half and have breakfast there.

The plan changed quickly as soon as we stepped in, the store counter was filled with fresh, tempting Samosas and Kachoris, and the family decided to stay and have a full breakfast in the city itself.

My brother ordered two of everything, and in a matter of minutes the table was full of fried snacks and chutneys; it was all gone in half that time!

Haldiram’s being right next to Starbucks, I knew I had to pick up my morning coffee too; after all what’s breakfast without coffee, right? Mom was too kind and bought me a gift, a bag of their finest coffee beans for home.

And if coffee wasn’t the perfect gift already, we were back en route to Lonavala, to Della Resorts: a luxury resort in the lap of nature, surrounded by the hills!

The location of Della Resorts is the first thing you notice, surrounded by hills it’s such a pleasant atmosphere. They have luxury villas here, and the whole place is done up in beautiful decor pieces carefully curated. I loved all the horse motifs around. They’ve liberally used Versace decor pieces all over the place; luxury stares you in the face even in the bathroom mirror!

From the minute I stepped out of the car, the fresh air hit me first, and the whiff of luxury next! The resort is spread over a large expanse of land, surrounded by hills and greenery!

We were spoilt for choices, trying to decide where to go for lunch among their five restaurants with five different cuisines.

Being a Sunday, there was a long wait for a table. We didn’t mind waiting, except our stomachs were rumbling as if we’d not eaten for days. When you’re waiting outside a restaurant, you tend to forget about the Kachoris you had back in the city!

While we waited for a table, the views were amazing; there was the adventure park on one side where people were trying anything from zip lining to cycling on the zip line called ecoflyer and the horse stables on the other side.

The monsoon rains came pouring down around 2 PM, just like the Google app had already alerted, and the entire area was soon covered in fog.

This was outside the restaurant, once the fog cleared up partially.

By the time we got our table and ordered the food, we couldn’t make out anything through the giant glass windows of the restaurant. There was zero visibility, but with hot Parsi food on our plates, we had nothing to complain about!

They have a giant bucket list board at Della, and it was interesting to read some of the entries from people, an insight into what people consider as the one thing to do before they die can give you some perspective in life.

We got soaked in the rains today, ate ice cream while drenched, saw so many different dog species at their in-house kennels, from the Pug to Lhasa Apso, Labrador, Doberman, Dalmatian, Boxer, Siberian Husky to Irish Setter they have many different dogs at their kennels and we said Hi to all these cute furry friends!

I’m super blessed to have had this beautiful day to remember this Daughter’s Day by, and grateful for my Kurkure-parents (You know like Kurkure: “Tedha hai par mera hai!“)

Until tomorrow, xx
